Marc Kalman
In more than 44 years in radio, from small markets to large markets, from disc jockey and program director to sales to management, Marc Kalman has done it all.
In the 1960s he was the program director and a popular disc jockey at stations in Michigan and Illinois before moving into sales and management, beginning as an account executive at WMIN, then to KRSI Minneapolis/Saint Paul in 1968. In 1969 he came to WDGY Minneapolis/Saint Paul in sales, and also appeared as the “WDGY Hit Man” in the “WDGY Hit Car.” By 1974 he was the station’s sales manager. In 1980 he began eight years as vice president of Blair Radio Minneapolis/Saint Paul. In 1988 he moved to WCCO Minneapolis/Saint Paul, where he served as general sales manager. He left in 1992 to take over as vice president and general manager of KDWB FM Minneapolis/Saint Paul, adding Twin Cities stations KTCZ FM in 1995 and WLOL FM in 1998.
Finally, he spent six-plus years as president and general manager of KQRS, KXXR (93X), and Love 105. He led his stations to seven Marconi Awards and four Crystal Awards. He is well known for his commitment to the community. His station campaigns have raised millions of dollars to aid chronically ill children and their families.
Marc retired from broadcasting on December 16, 2011.
