George Blum

George Blum’s long and distinguished broadcast career spanned five decades at radio and television stations throughout the Midwest. He entered broadcasting as an announcer at KWAT Watertown, South Dakota, returning there after serving in the US Army during World War II. After earning his first class license, he became an engineer/announcer at KMHK and KORN Mitchell, South Dakota, and helped build KORN TV Mitchell, where he developed the popular children’s character “Kernel Korn.” He and his wife Ruby owned KLME Laramie, Wyoming, managed KBOM Bismarck, North Dakota, and KXGN/KXGN TV Glendive, Montana, and owned WRJC AM/FM Mauston, Wisconsin, before building KOLV FM Olivia with their sons Chuck and Phillip. Throughout his career he was driven by his belief in the value of community service, personal integrity, loyalty to family, and hard work.

George Blum passed away, at the age of 82, on January 16, 2005.
