Clayt Kaufman
During his 39-year career at WCCO Radio, Clayton Kaufman played a key role in making the station one of the most successful broadcast operations in the nation.
A native of Minneapolis, Kaufman served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He graduated from the University of Minnesota in 1949 with a degree in journalism, and spent two years with International News Service in Dallas before joining WCCO as a news writer and reporter in 1951.
From then on until his retirement on the last day of 1990, Kaufman advanced through other positions at WCCO, including promotion director, national sales manager, director of broadcast operations, station manager, vice president and general manager, and senior vice president for radio. He won a number of industry awards for outstanding promotion campaigns, and also created and managed the highly successful WCCO Radio Good Neighbor tour program. He has served on the boards of directors of the Minnesota Broadcasters Association, CBS Radio Affiliates, and the Broadcasters Promotion Association.
Clayt Kaufman passed away on April 30, 2012.
