Cathy Wurzer
Cathy Wurzer is a familiar face and voice to Minnesotans across the state.
She is the long-time host of “Morning Edition” on Minnesota Public Radio News and MPR’s noon-time program, “Minnesota Now.” Cathy started at MPR in the late 1980’s when the flagship station was KNOW-AM. She left MPR for WCCO Radio and TV in the late 1990’s where she became an anchor/reporter and radio talk show host at WCCO.
Cathy returned to MPR in 2000 to host “Morning Edition.” In 2017, she helped take Morning Edition to number one in the Twin Cities market for the first time in MPR history and since then, it has been among the top-ranked morning radio shows in the Minneapolis/St. Paul market.
Since 1994, she has been the co-host of “Almanac,” a weekly public affairs program produced by Twin Cities Public Television for Minnesota’s statewide public television network. “Almanac” has been on the air since 1984, making it one of the longest running public affairs programs of its kind in the country.
After leaving the University of Wisconsin-River Falls in 1984, Cathy Wurzer started her career as a news anchor and political reporter for KSTP-AM radio in the Twin Cities. Cathy has also been a news producer for FOX-9 (KMSP-TV) in the Twin Cities. Wurzer has used her producing skills to create the award-winning documentary “Tales of the Road: Highway 61” for TPT, which was a companion production to the Minnesota Historical Society book by the same name.
In 2015, Cathy began a series of on-air conversations with a man dying of ALS that led to an Edward R. Murrow award and work on behalf of the ALS Association. Ultimately, that series resulted in Cathy founding the End in Mind Project, a nonprofit dedicated to conversations around loss, grief, death, and dying. For many years, Cathy Wurzer has given back to the community by hosting galas and other events for charitable groups across the state of Minnesota.
