Earl Henton

Earl Henton

A veteran of more than 40 years in broadcasting, Earl Henton was a pioneer in television news, and was known as the “Voice of the Minnesota Iron Mining Industry.” His broadcasting career began in 1940 at KWLM Willmar. In 1943 he moved to WEBC in Duluth, where his radio newscasts were heard throughout the Arrowhead region. He moved to KDAL Duluth in 1953 and helped prepare its new television station, now KDLH TV Duluth. He served as program director and anchored the 10:00 PM news until 1972, when he became the station’s vice president of public affairs. He retired in 1983. He also hosted the popular “Producers Playhouse,” a late-night movie shown without commercial interruption but preceded by an educational segment on the iron mining industry. Twin Ports viewers will remember his trademark sign-off for his 10:00 PM newscast: “Tomorrow night at ten, let’s meet again.”

Earl Henton passed away June 25th, 2001 at the age of 88.
