SUMMARY:Unseen Signals: IEEE Traveling Exhibit
DESCRIPTION:The Pavek Museum will host Unseen Signals\, the IEEE Global Museum’s traveling exhibit on the radio pioneer and IEEE Medal of Honor recipient Edwin H. Armstrong. The exhibit traces Armstrong’s contributions to electronic communication by highlighting his technological innovations\, patriotism\, and the continuing relevance of his achievements. Beginning with an exploration of the humble origins of the radio era during the early 20th century\, we invite visitors to immerse themselves in Armstrong’s university years\, his military service during the First World War\, his alliance with the Radio Corporation of America (RCA)\, and the rise of the radio broadcasting industry. \nBetween Armstrong’s triumphs and tragedies\, Unseen Signals reveals the profound cultural and political impact of broadcasting and the influence of WWI and WWII on wireless communication. It recaptures how men\, women\, and children participated in the radio revolution through photographs\, advertisements\, and our unique collection of radio-branded cultural items and ephemera. Come and see the prototype (superheterodyne) radio from which modern radios are descended\, explore period photographs and cultural artifacts\, and engage with touchscreen interactives featuring original broadcasts and short documentary films. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n About IEEE\n \n More About Unseen Signals

SUMMARY:Member Night
DESCRIPTION:Mark your calendar for an exclusive Member Night on Friday\, July 10\, 2026! Admission is complimentary for members and their guests. Explore the exhibits during special evening hours and enjoy live demonstrations of one of our most unique artifacts\, the spark gap transmitter\, back by popular demand! \nSpark gap transmitters were the first working form of radio and generate radio waves with an electric spark. These devices were used during the early 1900s as “wireless telegraphs.” Originally assembled by one of our founders\, Joe Pavek\, our very own spark gap\, affectionately nicknamed “Sparky\,” will come to life at Member Night. Guests with pacemakers should use caution by maintaining a safe distance from the demonstrations.  \nThis members-only event is a great opportunity to take in the exhibits in a new light and connect with fellow science and technology enthusiasts. Additionally\, coffee and snacks will be provided. Members and member guests should check in at the Welcome Desk upon arrival.  \nEvent Details \nLocation: Pavek Museum of Electronic Communication \nDate: July 10\, 2026 \nTime: 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. \nFree onsite parking is available.  \nRSVP recommended but not required. \n  \nStay tuned for the RSVP link! \n
